Had a home on the beach, but lived far from it. Put up weather station and camera to be able to check for waves. Figured a second use of the site would be to draw attention to the pollution and litter of our world. Was a big problem back then, that has gotten worse since the pandemic.
I digress… Found Tom Stock’s web site while looking for the origin and species of the grass/seaweed that has been in the canal for some time now. It is rotting away as we speak, but still a real problem.
Took my boat out on July 2nd, had to motor thru 2 or 3 what I thought were little patches of scum, maybe 10-18 inch circles on the surface.

Had to shut down the motor and unwrap to continue. Would guess 10-12 wraps of grass with it wrapped tightly in every crevasse.
The stuff almost looks like it is attached to the bay floor, there is so much mass under the water as it is still very alive. Look at the picture of the motor with lots of green wraps with brown floating surface scum around.
Back to Litter…
So I wrote some short poems about litter / pollution and mixed them in with my site’s information. My First poem was “Water Litter”.
As I said, was on Tom’s site and saw his poems along with Babylon Town’s sign at SS Parkway exit Rt 109. Read about their Clean Campaign to limit litter and decided to post my poems in hope they make people more aware of the issue. Probably going to try to do same as I did on gilgo.com…
Don’t Litter
It Makes Ugly Glitter
Litter Kills
Things with Gills
If You Litter
You’re a Lazy Critter
