This morning brought some new info on the swan family. 4 of the 5 signets are with us, assumed the signet that was born with some sort of defect ion one of its feet casing it to not work right. Well this morning, I noticed he was one of the four still living.
Signets, baby swans, live a dangerous first couple of months. Besides other male swans, who will kill them if they can, snapping turtles are the biggest predator on Long Island, in lakes and marshlands. Since the Swan family nest is regularly located in the wetlands, the turtle can lay awaiting.
The Butt feathers are started to fill in. The fluffy down is showing the beginning of the Tail Feathers with the Wing feathers developing nicely. Signets try to fly around 3 months old, think these guys are hitting the 2 month age.
