Stunning night to sleep, sunrise still and cool, the mermaid grass, strange seaweed I guess, is rotting but still hanging at the surface with long dead clumps below. The killies come and feast on it daily. Saw some of the rotting mass float out of the Carls River on the west side of the Babylon Pool Parking Lot, first time seeing it in the bay.

The Swan family showed up for breakfast. As had previously posted, they had lost 1 of the 5 babies in the first month. This morning when I came out with snacks, the family paddled towards me with one of the signets way behind the crew.
When the signets first showed up, could see that one of them had a deformed leg and swam different from the rest. Assumed he was the one who disappeared yet here comes a young swan paddling with problems. Then I saw the hook, still with bait on it in its back. There was lots of line attached causing the drag when the swan tried to swim.
I got a pole and tried to get hold of the line so could try to free or cut the line. Did not succeed, but the commotion caused some of the fishing line to separate giving the little guy a better chance. Looks like he can move more freely now. The youngsters are looking more like swans now with their necks approaching 12″.
